Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan highlighted Bangladesh's challenges in transitioning to renewable energy, stressing the urgent need for timely and equitable financial and technological support.
"Despite facing obstacles, Bangladesh remains determined to meet its goal of generating 40% of its energy from renewable sources by 2041. The country is actively revisiting its energy policies to ensure sustainability and energy sovereignty," she stated.

BD may fetch US$1.0b annually from carbon trading
Bangladesh has potentials to fetch around US$1.0 billion annually from global carbon market, said global lead for carbon markets and finance of the World Bank Chandra Shekhar Sinha Saturday.
He said the country requires to expedite the process of learning to bag the opportunities as offered globally under the carbon trading.

Govt to pay off Adani $10m weekly in dues
The interim government has made a move to pay at least $10 million a week to the Indian Adani Power in outstanding electricity bills, according to officials.
Bangladesh owes an estimated $850 million to Adani for purchasing electricity through the cross-border power grid, they say.

Bangladeshi CSOs stage demo against fossil fuel expansion in Baku
A group of Bangladeshi civil society organisations on Friday staged a demonstration at the ongoing COP29 at the Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku against fossil fuel expansion.
The group urgently demanded for fossil fuel phase out, revision of the current power master plan, adequate and sustainable climate finance and a rapid transition to renewable energy.

The days of fossil fuel not over yet
President Aliyev has described the country's rich deposits of natural resources including oil and gas as the "Gift from God". Azerbaijan is rich in both of these fossil fuels. Under his presidency, the country has been roaring ahead with development, driven largely by fossil fuel utilisation. One can understand the discontent of climate activists as to why on earth the COP29 summit is being hosted by an unapologetic regime that has no problems utilising fossil fuels.

Bangladesh starts receiving electricity from Nepal thru' India
Bangladesh started receiving electricity from Nepal under a trilateral power-sharing agreement from Friday (November 15).
It marks the start of 40 megawatt (MW) electricity supply from Nepal to Bangladesh via an Indian grid, sources at the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) said on Friday.

Bangladesh should endorse the fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty
Bangladesh is currently in a crucial transition period with reform initiatives taken in a number of areas. Urgent reform in the energy sector is also needed. As a climate justice activist, I have been advocating for a fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty since 2021, around the same time that Professor Muhammad Yunus—now the head of the interim government in Bangladesh—first endorsed the proposal for a global treaty to manage a fast and fair transition away from coal, oil and gas extraction.
