Bangladesh, Thailand nearing energy cooperation MoU: Nasrul Hamid
The Thai envoy expressed her country's interest in investing in deep-sea oil and gas exploration and also supplying LNG. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said that the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Dhaka and Bangkok to increase energy cooperation is at an advanced stage.

Petrobangla now plans to invite int'l bidding for onshore blocks for hydrocarbon exploration: Chairman
Earlier, Petrobangla, the oil, gas and mineral corporation, floated the offshore bidding on 10 March this year inviting international oil and gas companies to explore Bangladesh's maritime area in the Bay of Bengal. After floating bids for offshore oil and gas exploration, Petrobangla now plans to invite international bidding for onshore hydrocarbon exploration.

April in rural areas may get crueller
Despite assurances that there would be uninterrupted electricity supply during Ramadan, the government's summer plan seems to have fallen flat on its face. Recent news reports have shown that rural areas—including in Mymensingh, Cumilla, Rangpur, Bogura, Khulna, Sylhet, and Rajshahi—are experiencing six to eight hours of load-shedding a day. With April giving us an early taste of how hot the weather will be during the next few months, the prospect of prolonged power outages amid sweltering heat is daunting. The high demand for power during summer months is predictable, so it should have been reflected in the government's preparations.
