Bangladesh is currently in the midst of a great transformation following the ouster of the former prime minister and her government. This is a Bangladesh that holds infinite promise, however prosperity is never truly guaranteed. Now more than ever, Bangladesh is in need of cooperation from its many regional and international partners. Given just how dire the current state of our economy is, our country could do with every bit of help from other nations, whether we are talking about our industries or even our long-term development plans. Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus recently urged China to relocate some of its solar panel factories to Bangladesh -- a move which, if complied with, stands to directly impact not only our immediate economic goals, but also Bangladesh’s overarching ambitions of a green transformation, especially that of our energy generation endeavours.

China is one of the largest manufacturers of solar panels, which is why requests for a relocation of their solar panel factories to Bangladesh is an incredibly sensible move. For the past few years, Bangladesh has quietly been adopting solar power generation, but due to a lack of skilled knowledge regarding operations and maintenance, the initial excitement over the technology has given way to disenchantment and, unfortunately, a boost to our already well-established problems with e-waste. This proposed relocation stands to greatly improve Bangladesh’s green energy ambitions, which is going to be all the more imperative given our climate vulnerability. However, it can also help us immensely with our immediate economic woes by helping Bangladesh achieve its long-held goal of diversifying our export basket.
