ADB invests Tk17,016 crore
World Bank invests Tk9,367 crore
State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid has said that the Power Division is implementing foreign investment projects of Tk 1,21,675 crore through 36 projects. Nasrul made the remarks in response to a question by Awami League lawmaker Mohammad Habib Hasan during the question-answer session in Parliament on Thursday. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session. Of the amount, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has invested Tk17,016 crore, World Bank Tk9,367 crore, KFW Tk2,567 crore, China Exim Bank Tk20,042 crore, AFD Tk1,002 crore, LoC-India Tk15,543 crore, Jica Tk48,439 crore, AIIB Tk5,447 crore, Bank of China Tk56 crore, HSBC Bank Tk261 crore and SMBC Tk1,422 crore.
In response to Kazim Uddin Ahmed's question, Nasrul said currently 55% of the electricity demand in the country is in the residential sector, 11% in the commercial sector and 27% in the industrial sector.Answering another question by Abdul Latif, he said 461 megawatts of electricity come from renewable energy-based power plants. An average of 400-425MW is being generated from these power plants during the off-peak periods.
He said plans have been undertaken to increase the power generation capacity based on renewable energy in the future. At present, 15 power plants with a total capacity of 561MW from renewable energy are under construction. The contract signing is under process for the construction of 16 power plants with a total capacity of 1,059MW. On the other hand, tenders are under process for the construction of six power plants with a total capacity of 228MW. A total of 22 power plants with a total capacity of 1,800MW are under construction. Replying to a question by Anwar Hossain Khan, the state minister said, a total of six gas wells have been discovered from 2019 to September 2023.
