Rampal Coal-Fired Thermal Power Plant in Bagerhat returned to production on Monday after 16 days of closure due to a coal shortage. The power plant resumed production at 3pm on Monday, said Anwar-ul Azim, deputy general manager (DGM) of Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (Pvt. Ltd.) BIFPCL Limited.

"Since this afternoon, 400 MW of electricity generated has been added to the national grid. On August 13, the Bangladeshi-flagged ship MV Bashundhara Impress arrived at Mongla port from Indonesia with 31,700 tonnes of coal. The work of unloading, transporting, and storing coal has been going on since morning," said the official.

He also said two more ships carrying coal from Indonesia to Mongla port are scheduled to arrive at Mongla port later this month. The Rampal Thermal Power Plant has been shut down six times in the seven-and-a-half months since it was commissioned on December 17 last year. The power plant was first shut down on January 14, followed by April 15, April 23, June 30, July 16, and July 30.
