Scrap all unequal deals with Adani, other foreign companies: National Committee

Leaders of the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports on Wednesday at a protest rally in Dhaka called on the interim government headed by Professor Muhammad Yunus to scrap all the deals signed in energy and power sector earlier, including power supply deal with Indian company Adani group.


The Dhaka city chapter of the committee organised the protest rally in front of the National Press Club where its leader Khan Asaduzzaman Masum chaired.


Former member secretary and economist Anu Muhammad called on the interim government to take steps for strengthening Petrobangla and BAPEX for explorations of the gas fields in our country.


He also called on the interim government to strike fair deals with foreign companies in the power and energy sector scrapping all the unequal deals signed with the companies for power import, including Indian Adani Group, which was threatening to stop their power supply if their payment was not cleared.


Anu Muhammad also called on the interim government to take steps for holding trials of corrupt people in the power and energy sector of the country and withdrawal of the cases filed against the leaders and activists of the Phulbari movement.


Khan Asaduzzaman Masum who chaired the rally said that the National Committee would continue its movements for establishing justice in the power and energy sector of the country.


Another Dhaka city leader Sajedul Huq Rubel said that the interim government could take some steps for stopping corruption in the power and energy sector.


Dhaka city leaders Khalequzzaman Lipon, Abdus Salam and Mir Mofazzal Hossain Mostaue and others spoke at the rally.


The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded different city roads.
