Current Status: Operation


Bogura 113 MW Furnace Oil Power Plant (Unit-I), also known as Confidence Bogra-1 Power Plant, is a reciprocating engine-based power plant situated at Ranirhat in Birgram of Kharna Union under Shajahanpur Upazila in Bogura District of Bangladesh (Location: 24.7686, 89.3458). It is sponsored by Confidence Power Bogra Limited (CPBL), a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of Confidence Power Holdings Limited (CPHL) which is a subsidiary of Confidence Group. CPBL declared its Commercial Operation Date (COD) on 17 November 2019 and, as per schedule, the power plant will retire on 16 November 2034. 


Capacity

The power plant's installed (gross) and derated (net) capacity is 113 MW and 111.3 MW respectively.


Context

The Confidence Power Bogura Ltd., situated in Birgram, Bogura, Bangladesh, operates on a 14.5-acre land and holds a significant contract capacity of 113 MW (Net), with an operational agreement spanning 15 years. The net 113MW power plant situated at Nator-Bogura Highway at Birgram, Bogura, consisting of Unit of MAN Diesel & Turbo SE (Engine) supplied By Germany, XD (Sub-station) by China, MAN (Turbine) and ME ( Boiler) by India to sell the whole production of electricity to the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB)(CN,2019 ). 


Land

The land acquired for the plant is 14.5 acre.


Fuel

The power plant run on heavy fuel oil (HFO) or furnace oil.


Contractor

The Confidence Power Bogra Ltd has informed Dhaka Stock Exchange two days ago that the Board of Directors has agreed with the decision taken in the Board of Directors of Confidence Power Holdings Ltd, an associate of Confidence Cement Ltd, having 41 per cent stake in its equity capital, that upon successful testing and commissioning the Confidence Power Bogra Ltd, a 99 per cent subsidiary of Confidence Power Holdings Ltd . The inclusion of CIL underscores the vertically integrated approach of the Confidence Group, solidifying its commitment to effective project execution and comprehensive energy solutions(CN,2019 ). 


Environment

According to Section 12 of the Bangladesh Environment Protection Act 1995, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is obligatory for any industry (MOLJPA, 1995). Polluting industries, such as power plants, must undergo an Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) and EIA as directed in the Environmental Conservation Rules 1997  (MOEFCC, 1997).  However, no EIA report was found for this power plant. According to the environmental conservation rule 2023 the project falls in the “Red” indicating it as a potential harmful project for the environment (MOEFCC 2023).
